    What is inclusive communication and which methods work best? The effectiveness of communication is often underestimated, or worse, not even thought about. However, communicating what you are doing to increase diversity and promote inclusive practices at your Club or Association is one of the most valuable activities you can do. It’s not very effective if you have an organisation that encourages diversity and no one in the community is aware of it.

    For inclusion to work most effectively we need to work in partnership with our community. But how can Clubs and Associations establish strong partnerships in diverse communities? If you think about the best partnerships in life and what the common denominators are for success, they will usually include: good communication, openness, honesty, shared goals, flexibility, listening and being adaptable. Partnerships can take many forms, but the most positive and lasting ones are usually based on mutual trust and respect.

    Choice is important in order for inclusion to work. But creating choices that are relevant to diverse community needs can be a challenge. How can we identify and implement greater choice in netball? Having a good, positive attitude to inclusion is a good start; the next step is providing choices and opportunities so your Club or Association is flexible and supportive of people from a diverse range of backgrounds and abilities.
